Pulse-phase thermography

The future of laser weld seam inspection

Weld inspection with pulse-phase thermography

Pulse-phase thermography not only sees the surface of laser weld seams, but can also look inside - similar to X-ray methods - and thus determine the weld cross-section.

Advantages: The test is completely non-contact and non-destructive, and is performed within a very short time (typically < 1s / test position).

Functionality: Pulse-phase thermography combines infrared thermography with laser excitation and belongs to the category of non-destructive testing using active thermography. Heat flow analysis is used to visualize the internal properties of materials and possible material defects without contact. The correlation between the energy applied with the laser and the cooling of the material surface is used to determine the local thermal conductivity and thus draw conclusions about the weld seam's connection cross-section.

Typical applications include testing the cell connectors of traction and other battery modules, laser and spot welded joints in the bodywork and seating sector, and many more...
